Western Theme Party Badge Idea

Western Theme Party Badge Idea

Planning a cowgirl theme birthday? These fabulously girly sheriff badges are fit for a princess, ahem, cowgirl.

1

You could also turn these shabby chic sheriff badges into a birthday garland. Make bigger accordions, use larger doilies and spell out H-A-P-P-Y-B-I-R-T-H-D-A-Y onto larger stars. Attach together with ribbon or jute and hang at your cowgirl shindig.

Supplies
  • Aqua & Pink Cardstock
  • Gold Cardstock
  • Miniature Doilies
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue
  • Faux Pearls
  • Pin Backings
  • White Marker
Directions

Step 1: For each badge, cut 2 – 2 x 12 inch strips of pink or aqua paper. Fold like an accordion and attach ends together with hot glue.

2

Push accordion together, to form a circle and add a glob of hot glue in the center. Hold together until glue dries and circle stays in place.

Step 2: Glue accordion circle on top of a miniature doily. Glue a pin backing onto the back of the doily.

3

Step 3: Cut gold cardstock into stars and glue faux pearls onto the points. Glue star onto the accordion circle.

4

Step 4: Write guest names on the stars using a white marker.

Dinosaur Felt Applique Shirt Party Favor/Craft

Dinosaur Felt Applique ShirtThis homemade dinosaur shirt will be the talk of your next dinosaur-themed birthday bash! It requires minimal sewing skills and is a great project for the novice crafter.

The embroidered detail around the felt dinosaur will make it look like you spent hours on this shirt, when in reality, it will only take you about 30 minutes to create.

1

If making this for the birthday boy or girl, use an iron-on number in the center of the dinosaur to announce his or her age. You can purchase iron-on numbers at your local craft store or make one yourself.

Supplies
  • White T-Shirt
  • Orange Felt
  • Heat’n Bond Ultra Hold Iron-On Adhesive (no-sew)
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Needle
  • Blue Embroidery Thread
  • Embroidery Needle
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Dinosaur Stencil (found online or at your local craft store)
  • Iron
Directions

Step 1: Iron Heat’n Bond onto a piece of orange felt. Trace the dinosaur stencil onto the back of the Heat n Bond. Cut the dinosaur out using fabric scissors.

Step 2: Remove the Heat’n Bond backing off of the dinosaur and stitch around the dinosaur with blue embroidery thread. See photo for an example.

Step 3: Iron the applique on the shirt according to the Heat’n Bond directions. I recommend placing a sheet on top of the applique before ironing.

Step 4 (optional): To add your child’s age to the shirt, you can either buy iron-on numbers at your local craft store or make your own. If you go the DIY route, iron on Heat’n Bond Ultra Hold Iron-On Adhesive to a piece of felt. Cut out the number and iron it on to the dinosaur by following the instruction on the Heat’n Bond package.

Mini Piñatas

Mini Piñatas
This photo originally appeared in FamilyFun Magazine
Total Time 1 hour
Ages school-age

Modeled after traditional piñatas, these personal-size candy holders tear open easily, revealing a cache of sweets inside. And since they’re a cinch to put together, they make great favors for a school party.

What you’ll need

  • Toilet paper tube
  • Tissue paper
  • Paper streamer
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to make it

  1. 1
Make a cut along the length of a toilet paper tube, then roll the cardboard into a cone and secure it with tape.
  2. 2
Roll the cone in green tissue paper, taking care to fully cover the tip, and tape the tissue paper in place.
  3. 3
Remove the cardboard and fill the paper cone with small candies.
  4. 4
Tightly twist closed the top to create the chili’s stem.
  5. 5
For the fringe, accordion-fold a 25-inch length of red paper streamer and cut slits ¼ inch apart along one side, stopping ¼ inch from the edge.
  6. 6
Unfold the streamer and place the chili’s bottom point at one end of the fringe. Slowly wrap the fringe around the chili in a tight upward spiral, sticking it in place with a glue stick as you go. Trim any excess fringe and allow the glue to dry. Come fiesta time, partyers can simply tear the tissue paper to break open the piñata.

Jelly Bean Carrots

Jelly Bean Carrots
This photo originally appeared in FamilyFun Magazine

Here’s a bunch of carrots kids will definitely want to nibble on. These make a sweet favor for a party or a welcome treat in any Easter basket. To change the size of the carrot, simply adjust the amount of beans in the bag.

What you’ll need

  • Disposable clear plastic icing bags (available where cake-decorating supplies are sold; about $4 for a dozen bags)
  • Orange jelly beans
  • Scissors
  • Green tissue paper
  • Twist ties

How to make it

  1. Fill an icing bag with orange jelly beans, leaving at least 3 inches unfilled at the top.
  2. Cut out two 8-inch squares of green tissue paper and lay one atop the other. Pick up the squares from the center and give them a little twist so you have a cone-shaped carrot top.
  3. Gather the bag at the top of the jelly beans and secure with a twist tie, wrapping the tie around the “stem” of the tissue paper, so the greenery sticks out of the top.
